Benefits of High Speed Internet
Written by Tom FRIEDMAN
When we talk about high speed Internet there are always a few options. Each of those options has some unique benefits, but all of them together have some in common benefits. I think most of them are obvious, but they are what makes any form of high speed Internet wanted. Whether you are using DSL, cable Internet, satellite Internet or wireless, some things are the same.

Need for Speed

Speed is the number one factor for all the users. Technology has developed greatly, so did the websites. A mere dial-up connection is no longer enough for new Java based websites, nor can you use a dial-up connection to download a movie. So the speed is what we are all about. Just like any other person using the Internet, I love to open a page instantly. Nobody wants to wait, and not just for surfing, but also for downloading and uploading files.

Whether it is for personal or business use, the need to exchange data and download files from the network is essential to us all. The speed is also a crucial factor for that. For a business the speed is important, there are always deadlines to follow. For personal use the speed of sending and receiving data is also important. We are all impatient when it comes to waiting, so that’s the reason why we want high speed Internet connections, and we always want more speed.

I could count 100 different benefits of a high speed connection, but you are all aware of them. But what are the benefits of certain types of high speed connections?

ADSL

ADSL is the most used type of high speed connection. The benefits are obvious; first the phone line is free. But that is a minor issue here, the reason why most users go for DSL type of connection is stability. Yes, the download speed is important and it’s a great benefit for home users. Any form of asymmetric type of connection is great for downstream. But people tend to go for ADSL because the speed is constant. Unlike wireless, cable or satellite, where interference is possible, ADSL has constant speed that you can always count on. So once you sign a contract for a certain package, certain speed, you can always expect to get that speed.

Cable Internet

Cable Internet is always compared to DSL, and there is only one benefit over DSL, but that can also be questioned. We are talking about the speed. Speed of cable Internet is much faster than DSL, but that is only in theory. Although that speed is great for downloading, you will most likely have a decrease in speed when other users from your area connect to the network. Either way, companies restrict the numbers of users per area so your speed will always match the ADSL or other DSL connection.

Satellite Internet

Although satellite Internet is not so popular it has one of the greatest benefits over other types of connections. The benefit is the ultimate accessibility. No matter where you live, no matter what utilities you have. If you have a power generator to supply your computer with power you can have a high speed Internet connection from a mountain top. That is the reason why people tend to go for satellite Internet. DSL, cable, wireless are not represented in some small towns and rural areas, so the only option for having a high speed Internet connection is using satellite Internet. So this is a great benefit for anyone living a secluded life away from the big cities. Plus the speed can sometimes be greater than cable Internet can offer.

Wireless Internet

Wireless Internet has a similar benefit like satellite connection. Although it’s not accessible everywhere like satellite, wireless technology is expanding and soon there will be antennas covering every bit of space, just like cell phone coverage. The great benefit of wireless is that you don’t need a cable or any type of landline connection to have access to Internet. You can take your laptop, take a walk to the park and connect to the Internet from a bench. Using wireless type of connection you can have high speed Internet anytime, anywhere, which makes this type of connection more and more popular each day. Another great benefit of wireless is that many big cities offer free access to the Internet. So you will be surfing from a park totally free, but extremely fast.

Each type of these connections has its great benefits and some flaws. But the difference is in usage, while some are great for cities other are great for small places. Some are great for home users while others are great for business and offices. The greatest benefit is that each of these types of connection offers high speed, viewing, downloading and uploading with ease, which all makes the Internet experience much greater. What is the greatest benefit of high speed Internet and what are the benefits of the most used types of connections.
